Aloha Friday - Recyle, Reuse, Reinvent Edition!

Aloha Fridays are brought to you by Kailani in beautiful Hawaii at An Island Life where Friday is the day to take it easy while anticipating the coming weekend. Today I'm going to link up, relax and ask an easy question.

Now that I'm in the midst of decorating our home, I've been on the hunt for accessories and furniture to fill in the gaps.  Personally, I love vintage finds, especially when it comes to furniture, glass and lighting.

Most new furniture is made of particle board with fancy veneer unless you want to shop the $1,000 plus stores for solid wood.  For me, finding an old piece of solid furniture for a few dollars and then having it sprayed the color of my choice plus updating its hardware is a lot more fun and original.

How about you?  Do you shop Vintage or prefer New?

I think it would depend on what project we are doing : )

I love the old styles...I have several mission style pieces in our house. I am not a modern girl so I would say vintage. Just not a lot of those here in WA.

Well living in the states we would choose new but now that we are living in Japan, we are looking for things with a past!

Probably new with a touch of vintage thrown in - for added whimsy.

Always vintage! I like sanding it down and repainting it myself---great feeling of satisfaction afterwards. Do you remember 15 years ago when sponge painting was all the rage??? Geez, I sponge painted my walls, my furniture...everything, until a few years later when it became out of style and I was so sick of it! Had to start all over again and did break down to buy a few new items! Lol!

I like a mix of both vintage and new.

I like both and have both in the home.

Definitely prefer vintage, though I have both. Don't like the press-board/veneer stuff, but sometimes it's a necessary evil. ;)

Oh yes! Antiques, auctions, and garage sale finds you can't go wrong with good solid made furniture finds.

I prefer solid wood and real material, but they can be so expensive.

I don't shop for furniture. Don't have the money for it, but if I did, I'd want vintage and a mixed of new.

Hi there, I like a little of both and have decorated my apartment likewise. I like to refinish some small items and make them look vintage and have fun doing so. Thanks for sharing. I have recently found your blog and am now following you, and will visit often. Please stop by my blog and perhaps you would like to follow me also. Have a wonderful day. Hugs, Chris

I send my husband out to shop because he really enjoys it. He's the scout. When he finds a piece, he'll take a picture, show it to me, and then I'll yay or nay it. Oh, and mostly, it's new stuff.

There is a room in my house that is basically mine. Within the next year, I will begin to transform it without suggestions from him. It'll be interesting to see what I end up with.
