Aloha Friday - What's Your Luxury?

Aloha Fridays are brought to you by Kailani in beautiful Hawaii at An Island Life where Friday is the day to take it easy while anticipating the coming weekend. Today I'm going to link up, take it easy and ask a question.

I'm not a shopaholic and no one can accuse me of wasting money or spending too much.  However, there are a few little luxuries I allow myself.  Let's just say my hubby isn't the type to surprise me with a bouquet of flowers.  It's not his "thing" and I don't take it personally.  He shows his appreciation in many ways and I don't feel at all hard done by.  So to make us both happy, I keep a fresh bouquet of flowers on our table at all times.

I'm happy, he doesn't have to bother and best of all, I use HIS money when I buy them.  This is my little indulgence and I feel absolutely no guilt.

How about you....do you have a favorite luxury for yourself?

Alexa's Angels Jewelry GIVEAWAY with Review (ENDED)

Winner is Daniel H

When I was given the opportunity to review an item from the vast line of meaningful jewelry created by the talented artists of Alexa's Angels, I was drawn to the Believe for a Cure Circle Icon Necklace for breast cancer awareness.

Thousands of women of all ages continue to be diagnosed each and every year with this dreaded disease and I am reminded of that every time my own five-year-old daughter reaches a milestone.  You see, the week she was born, another mom here who was only 32 at the time, gave birth to her own daughter and then passed away 5 months later when her breast cancer returned.  She left behind a 6-year-old and her newborn daughter, the same age as my own little girl at the time.

Unfortunately, this heartbreaking story or one very similar continues to play out again and again all over the world.  Raising money, spreading awareness and finding a cure is critical so as a tribute to all those brave moms, daughters, sisters, aunts and grandmothers, Alexa's Angels has created an entire Believe For A Cure jewelry line.

And this necklace is so elegant. It's feminine and pretty with a nice weight so it hangs beautifully and stays put making it perfect for everyday wear.

Aloha Friday - Word Verification?

Aloha Fridays are brought to you by Kailani in beautiful Hawaii at An Island Life where Friday is the day to take it easy while anticipating the coming weekend. Today I'm going to link up, take it easy and ask a question.

When I first started my blog, I kept the settings that were automatically pre-set and pretty much left them alone.  One of the only ones I went in and adjusted was the "word verification" on comments.
And no, there wasn't a flood of spam messages.  Not only that, comments are much easier for my readers to leave.  I'm sure I have written many comments on other blogs and clicked on to the next one without realizing their word verification was on and my comment didn't go through.

So today I'm asking, do you have the "Word Verification" activated for comments on your blog? If so, why?

Paranormal or Imagination? Part III

If you missed the previous posts I did on strange happenings, you can read about my house Here and my parent's house Here and Here.

Today's post is about my latest experience at my parent's house that took place in the Spring of this year.

My parents live in a bungalow with their bedroom at the end of the house with the spare bedroom directly across the hall from them.  Because of limited space, the few times my husband and daughter and I visit, I sleep on the living room sofa at the opposite end of the house so my husband and daughter can have privacy in the only spare bedroom.  My mom and I also like to stay up late after everyone has gone to bed and chat so this sleeping arrangement works for us.

Getting back to my story, it was between 1:00am and 2:00am and being on the sofa, I was having trouble falling asleep.  I was laying there wide awake when I heard two male voices mixed in with static.  I couldn't make out what was being said, but I could easily distinguish between the two voices.  It sounded as if it were coming from the kitchen which was on the other side of the wall behind me.  It reminded me of walkie talkies but I knew there were none in the house.

I became so curious, I got up and walked into the kitchen to investigate.  As I entered the room, there was complete silence.  I stood there and checked to see if the windows were open which they weren't.  This happened three times before it finally occurred to me.  I remembered years ago, my dad listening to an old police band radio after he went to bed.  I reasoned he must have dug it out and started listening to it again.  I then went back to the sofa and fell asleep.  Mystery solved.

Early the next morning, I heard my dad in the kitchen making coffee.  I got up to pour myself a cup and find out what all the fuss was on the police band radio the night before.  He looked a bit surprised and said "I didn't have a radio on last night, I haven't listened to that old police band radio for years"

To say I was shocked is an understatement.  I knew it wasn't a dream.  I hadn't even fallen asleep yet when I heard the static voices.  No windows were open and yet, I know I heard two male voices mixed with static coming from somewhere inside the house.

to be continued..........

It's A Miracle!!....Or Is It??

We recently had an Amber Alert in Western Canada.  That dreaded announcement another child is missing and asking all of us to pay attention and call authorities should we spot this missing child.

This time,  3-year-old Kienan Hebert is missing, apparently snatched from his own bed during the night and not noticed until the following morning when his parents go in to wake him up.  The alarm sounds and everyone scrambles to find this little boy.  There are extensive searches and investigations going on while the rest of the country holds their breath sickened by the thought of this beautiful little child in the hands of a stranger.

Then we hear there is a suspect.  A man with a lengthy criminal record including sexual assault and attempted abduction involving a child.  Our hopes are dashed. Will this child be seen alive again?

And then a few days later, a "miracle" happens.

This missing child is returned to his bed in the middle of the night while no one is at home.  We are told the house had been left unlocked by the family in the event the abductor wished to return him.  Police were not watching the home at the time. And why would they?  Can you even begin to calculate the odds of this happening?? Kienan is examined by a physician and it is determined he has been unharmed physically.

Then last Tuesday, the suspect is found hiding in an abandoned mining cabin and charged with kidnapping.

Happy ending and cheers all around while everyone pats each other on the back for a job well done.

We've all heard stories of children being snatched from their beds.  There was Elizabeth Smart, Sabrina Aisenberg, and Madeleine McCann just to name a few. Elizabeth was rescued from her abductors 9 months later while Sabrina and Madeleine remain missing to this day.

Each of these missing girls has had extensive media coverage on shows like America's Most Wanted and Dateline and CNN.  For the children who have been rescued like Elizabeth Smart and Jaycee Dugard, there have been book deals, television specials and movies celebrating in their miracle.

But for some reason, I can't help but wonder if the case of Kienan Hebert is just "too good to be true".  Don't get me wrong.  I'm thrilled for the family he has been returned in amazingly good condition after several days but for some reason, I just can't get the story of Balloon Boy out of my head....

Aloha Friday - Do You Make Time To Vote?

Aloha Fridays are brought to you by Kailani in beautiful Hawaii at An Island Life where Friday is the day to take it easy while anticipating the coming weekend. Today I'm going to link up, take it easy and ask a question.

One thing my parents instilled in me while growing up was the importance of voting.  Once I was old enough, my mother would insist I make time offering to drive me or do whatever it took to make sure I cast my ballot.

"After all", she would say, "thousands of women worked tirelessly to change the laws so we could vote, and if you don't vote, you have no right to bitch about politics."

To this day, I have not missed a single opportunity to vote and have my voice, however insignificant, heard and be counted.

How about you?  Do you take the time to vote??

ENJOY Professional Hair Care Products GIVEAWAY with Review ENDED

WINNER IS CHARL S

I love testing beauty products so when I was given the opportunity to try more hair-care products from ENJOY Professional Hair Care, I was delighted.  I had already been using their Sulfate-Free Luxury Shampoo and Conditioner right along with everyone else who has stepped into our shower.  And yes, every one of them wanted to know where to buy this fabulous little duo after using it just once.

And no wonder!  These two professional hair salon products don't only gently clean, moisturize and nourish your hair, the Shampoo can be used as a luxurious Body Wash and the Conditioner can be used as a Shaving Gel and Skin Moisturizer! Double duty and perfect for travel!

I've been using the Sulfate-Free Luxury Shampoo and Luxury Conditioner for several months and love their fresh, coconut-like scent.  They really do leave my hair smooth and feeling moisturized without any buildup.

And I'm not kidding.  Every visitor who tried this Shampoo and Conditioner asked me about it.  From my girlfriend who tried this on her 4 and 6 year old daughters right up to two male contractors who used this at our cottage while doing renovations there.  They wanted to know where to buy it!

Along with the Luxury Shampoo and Luxury Conditioner, Enjoy included a big tube of their Styling Gel.  This is perfect for building body.  I just apply it to my roots and then blow dry as usual.  It's flake free and offers loads of style flexibility.

Along with the Sulfate-Free Luxury Line, Enjoy sent me their Rejuvenating Volumizing Shampoo, Volumizing Conditioner and Volumizing Mousse.

First I tried the Volumizing Shampoo and enjoyed its eucalyptus/minty fresh scent. It left my hair super clean and ready for the Volumizing Conditioner.  This I gently massaged into my scalp and could actually feel it working with a tingling sensation once I rinsed it out.  With this one, I enjoyed the fresh aroma of peppermint.

Once I had towel dried my hair, it was time to try the Volumizing Mousse.  Again, as with all the products from Enjoy, this was easy to use.  Just a few pumps of the bottle and a quick massage into the hair and then right on to blow drying.

I found the Volumizing line of Enjoy Professional Hair Care products easily delivered on its promise of extra volume, root lift and incredible shine without flaking or build up.  Easy to use with great results!

Enjoy Hair Care Products make it so easy to feel the difference between a Professional Hair Salon product and a drug store brand.  There really is a huge difference!  See for yourself!
