Aloha Friday - Blog Motivation Needed!

Aloha Fridays are brought to you by Kailani in beautiful Hawaii at An Island Life where Friday is the day to take it easy while anticipating the coming weekend. Today I'm going to link up, take it easy and ask a question.

I've been blogging now since Summer 2008 and in that time, my blog has evolved from a place where I bitched about menopause and new motherhood to a place where I still bitch, laugh and complain but also host lots of higher-end giveaways. Lately, I feel like I'm running out of steam and the "love affair" with blogging is coming to an end.  I really don't want to give it up but feel that a little motivation is in order.

So today's question is "How do you stay motivated to blog on a regular basis and still keep the content interesting?"

Good question...and I'm not helping much, because I don't have an answer. Like my moods, and my life, my blog goes up and down. When I feel I have nothing of value to share, no wit to find, etc...I tend to just drop out of site for awhile. Not the best blogging strategy (given the work it takes). Maybe someone else will have some brilliant suggestions...I think I'll be keeping an eye out for them.

I guess it depends on the type of blogging you want to do. I know you enjoyed reviews and giveaways and you received a lot of traffic. When I met you though I was reading more of the personal posts you wrote...I liked that. Maybe you need to go back to the beginning for all your new followers. Personally I would hate to see you leave the blog world. You have a ton of talent here! Maybe you should just shoot for 1 really good fresh post a week...that way it isn't too much pressure.

There are some days that I just can't get motivated, so on those rare days when I am, I write as many posts as I can without thinking about spelling or grammar so I can get more done. I just start writing. Then when I need an easy day I just have to edit and add pictures.I also keep a small notebook in my purse, by my bed and by the computer so whenever I have an idea that might turn into a blog post I jot it down. I get ideas from the news, stuff my kids say, dreams, other blogs and just about anywhere.

I had one more suggestion. I had started a blog a while ago just so I could get more entries in giveaways by blogging about them. I ended up hating it. It turned out I loved blogging just not about that subject. You have to blog for yourself. Of course we all want a lot of people to follow our blog so we write about stuff that other people want to read. My solution was to find a happy medium. I give how to posts and stuff that will appear high on a search engine a couple of times a week and the rest is for me.

Well, I think sometimes a change in content is need. As I read a round the blog-world I get a feel of what folk want to talk about. Sometimes it make help to join a social group to join in the fun of a group of subjects.

Actually I've been feeling your same pain about my blogging. Though I haven't come up with any answers yet.

I do weekly memes like this one to keep me going.

I don't blog when I don't feel like it. I visit other bloggers and give my time.

And sometimes taking a break is always great. It gives you inspiration in a way and you might find why you really really can't wait to start writing again. You'll have so many ideas, and sometimes you just want to not have an obligation.

Happy Holidays!

I feel your pain - I've been blogging since September '08 and the past 6 or more months have been in all meme mode all the time...I've been wanting to get back to writing regular posts, but worry about a drop-off of visitors. I suppose I should just bite the bullet, though and see what happens. ;)

Like others have mentioned, you need to write for *you*, not other people...you write it, the readers will come (apparently I need to practice what I preach...heh!) I like all the other advice, too - I think I'll be adopting their suggestions for the new year. :)

Sometimes I really feel like taking a break but the last time I did (when I was pregnant with baby #3) I lost most of my readers. My motivation is knowing that I don't want to start at square one . . . again. :-)
