Out With the Old and In With the New!

Sometimes blending two households can be a challenge.  Add to that challenge two people who have completely different tastes and things can get tricky.  So far, my husband and I have done a pretty good job at making his furniture and mine blend but the one thing we can't agree on are the kitchen tables.  He has a formal dinning set that is left over from his first marriage and I've been slowly weeding out the old relics left over from his "previous" life.

I've decided that if he doesn't want to use the antique table that I had, maybe it's time to buy a new one.  One we both love.  I mean seriously, I have to keep things around here interesting so giving in just isn't an option.

I thought if I looked around on line, I might find something that we both love and maybe we could finally retire his old dining set or better yet, drop it off for his ex to deal with. I still thank my lucky stars she took the ugly bedroom set and used mattress with her or I'd be trying to figure out how to get rid of it too.

So with only one tiny furniture store in our little one-horse town, CSN Stores is where I went on the hunt.  Keeping in mind that we have a historic home with a fireplace in the dining room,  I chose these three sets.  Before I show them to the hubby, I'd like you guys to give your opinion.  I'm looking for something comfortable and traditional.

I love this footed table and the solid back chairs!

I didn't even think of a round table but this is gorgeous!

This one combines the best of both with a nice solid table and cozy fabric chairs!

So which one catches your eye?

My husband and I have very different tastes as well. He prefers very traditional pieces, which I rarely like...I prefer light colored wood or black furniture.

I'd like the first one better if the chair fabric was different, a little more colorful.

Second set: I love round tables, but the shape of the dining room dictates whether it will work or not. I like the look of the set, but would have to think about the indentions (can't think of what they're called at the moment) in the backs of the chairs - whether I like that or not.

The last one is okay, but without the paisely fabric.

To sum up, my eyes keep going back to the round table set.

Depends on the space Deb, I really love them all...but if I had to make a choice, I would say the round one.

The round one, I love it!

The round one! It would 'soften' up the room... The first set is a bit too austere for my taste. The last one is great, too, but I'd prefer the colors to be lighter and not that fabric...

I love the first one. It is simple yet makes a huge statement.

I like the first one, but not so thrilled with the white seat cushions. Those spell disaster waiting to happen, what with food around and all. Really my vote is for the first one--mostly.

okay here's my long arse answer -
I love the table on the 3rd one best, then the round one 2nd.Love tressle tables.
I love the chairs from the 1st the best then the chairs from the round table.

Bet that doesn't help a lick does it?

I would pick the first one because there is no fabric on the chairs. It's easy peasy to wipe off ketchup from wood chairs but fabric? OMG! no matter how many times you tell a child that they have to keep their sticky fingers away from the dinning room table? they will get them there. I had one home with a dinning room, and I never got a table into it, because we were using the table in the kitchen, the Dinning area was in the main part of the house so you had to walk through it to get to the basement or the livingroom. Sticky fingers before children? still happened. They were mine not hubbie's (he's a complete neat freak). so that's my pick, Wood wood wood.

I like the last one Deb. I think it would look really good in your dining room!

My wife and I have completely different ideas and tastes in both interior and exterior decorating. Maybe that explains a lot of blank walls in our house. LOL

But anyway, me personally, I don't care for formal looking furniture. I like simple, down home cozy type decor. But that's just me. And comfy is the key. I don't care how sweet and attractive furniture looks. If it isn't comfortable to be in, then why get it?

As for appearance alone, I prefer the set in the second picture.

I love the first one but for us I would be afraid of the cloth. The one I got is just all wood....we are messy plus we let Bryson sit in their with us.

I love the round table. We recently went shopping for dining room tables. Its really important to sit at the table before you buy. I actually sat at a table like the third one and it was uncomfortable so it really pays to try before you buy.

I love the first set, in fact, mine is very similar and it's 100 years old. Just classic styling!
