So Now What?

With Halloween behind us for another year, I'm sitting here staring at two full, unopened boxes of chocolate treats. Why don't I learn NOT to buy the chocolates that I like? The kiddies are gone, some of the 100's of treats I purchased are gone with them, but what am I supposed to do with these leftover goodies?

I really should have opened these two boxes first and given them out. I know that I can't walk by Peanut Butter Cups without reaching for one and here I have a box that probably has, oh, about 15 or 20 in it!  Okay, so I can pass on the Smarties. I don't know what it is about them but they just don't taste as good as they did when I was a kid. The Kit Kats? I happen to be eating one right now while I'm typing this so just like my waistline, they will be disappearing soon.

And did any of the rest of you notice how stingy the bar companies have become this year?  These Halloween packs now hold treats that are about the size of a Pot of Gold chocolate. Not only are the treats smaller, but the boxes hold less of them.  Instead of 100, its 70 and instead of 75, it's 50. Worst of all, the price of these boxed treats is up from last year!

So I wonder if I can learn my lesson once and for all so that next Halloween, I buy only the candy that I DON'T like and not nearly as much!

My favorite thing at Halloween is to give out the large candy from Costco. The kids love it. Save up and just watch how excited the kids are at the door.

And you know we will eat them rather than throw them out and waste our money !! I have 3 large bowls of candy that friends brought over for the boys so they got double the candy and we sure didnt need it ! and yes i noticed at Sams club that prices went up and things are much smaller WTHeck?? So good luck with all your goodies :)

So, I was saving my peanut butter cups for last, hoping to have those left over...but when I had to fill up the bowl, all those greedy little hands dug around for those and there was not one single one left!! Bah!

I try to do that! I buy things with peanut butter or peanuts because I know I won't eat them!

I hear ya! Since I had to work on Halloween night, I didn't stock up. But, first thing this morning, what did I do? Stopped by Kroger for bread and milk and saw that they were in the process of marking down all those leftover goodies 60%! Oh yeah, into the cart went Reese's, Mounds, Butterfingers, and Twilight New Moon individually wrapped creme filled chocolate figures of Edward and Bella. I resisted for about 15 miles, then dug into those.
I think I ate Edward. He was delicious.

We all relate! I've resisted temptation so far. Come by my place tomorrow. Something there for you.

My husband takes the problem away from me. He's usually got all the leftovers eaten by noon the day after Halloween. Then he's sick for the next two. Serves him right.

Send them to work with your Hubby or put them in a really high cabinet so you have to work hard to get them! Or send them to me!

You can hide them all over the house and that way, when you really least expect it, you may uncover one and be elated from the surprise.

Also, stick them in the freezer to use for cookies or ice cream toppings.

Or, you can save them for stocking stuffers.

Or you can eat one each day as a reward for something you've been avoiding. Everyone needs a reward every now and then.

The old down sizing trick for the treats.
congrats

Hi Just Breathe, Thanks for stopping by! I wish we had a Costco here but no warehouse style stores yet. If you are giving out large candy compared to those tiny single wrapped chocolate-sized bars I did, no wonder the kids are over the moon! I made the kids take at least three of mine, they were so small!

Hey Connie, I hear ya! Glad I'm not the only one struggling with all these goodies left over. My hubby loves chocolate but can't eat enough of them to curb my temptation! You're right about not wanting to throw "good money" in the garbage, I guess I would rather just add it to my hips Lol!

Lee, No wonder you hate Halloween, keep those Peanut Butter Cups OUT of the bowl like I did so you will have them left over! Then you can complain about wanting to eat them!

Blueviolet, I wish you had shared that info BEFORE I bought all these goodies that I love!!! Of course, none of my favorites made it to the treat bowl for the kids, only way that was going to happen is if I had run out! I'm my own worst enemy! Thanks for commenting!

EthelMaePotter, We must be related! except I would have dug into those goodies before starting up the car! Thanks for sharing!

I will use some of them(soft candies)for baking and decorate the icing with more candies.

Hi Just Playin', thank you so much for the award! I'm tickled that you thought of me but your point about menopause and a little one running around hit the mark! So far I've been able to display the award in my margin with a link to you, I'm trying and learning! Thanks again!

Hi Stacey, Your husband and I would NOT get along unless I hid half the stash away from him!! Thanks for sharing, hope the boys had a great Halloween!

Hi Frau, Thanks for stopping by, yes I could send them to work with my hubby except that he loves to have them here. He's one of those type that can just take one and be happy so if it was up to him, they would last until Valentine's Day. With me here, they will do well to last a couple of weeks!

Chocolate Covered Daydreams, those are great ideas for someone who can be SANE when it comes to chocolate. If I had these hidden around the house, I'd be tearing the place apart on a regular basis looking for them and making up all sorts of excuses as to why I deserved a reward! Let's see, got up today, REWARD, got dressed REWARD, combed my hair REWARD etc Lol! Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Plainolebob, thanks for finding me and the follow! Yes, the downsizing would have been the way to go BEFORE Halloween! Thanks for commenting, BTW, I'm now following your blog too!

We didn't give out candy. Other neighbors said they only had a couple of kids. Seems funny in an apartment complex. Tara got lots of good chocolate candy - lots of Hershey's stuff, but she seems to know how many of each, so I wait for here to offer!

I left you an award.

I learned that lesson a while ago. This year I was even more vigilant not to allow chocolate candy into the house for handing out at the door. It worked, I didn't touch any of that candy. Of course the kiddos have buckets of chocolate candy that I need to just say no to.

Bridgette said...

You can send it to my house, even though I SO don't need candy either!

Menopausal New Mom said...

Hi Yonca, you are so creative! Using some of the chocolate in baked goods is a great idea! Sure hope they last that long!

Hi Martha, thanks for stopping by and I would happily share any of my leftover candy and chocolates with you! Hope Tara offers some up in the meantime!

Thank you so much for the award! I have already posted it to my margin with a link to you and I'm working on a post to pass it along. Thanks again!

Too Many Hats, You are my hero. You are such a great role model and I don't know how you manage to stay on the wagon especially through the ultimate candy holiday! Well done!

Bridgette, I would love to have you ladies over for a chocolate feast and of course, we would need some wine to wash it all down! Thanks for stopping by and for commenting!

My idiot husband handed out the Reese's first. But he made sure to save the Kit Kats (his fave) for last. I ate them anyway. They aren't Reese's but they had the sweet taste of revenge.

Buying chocolate you don't like is a great idea!!! :) Thanks!

Ohhhh...you're in trouble! I know I would be. I LOVE chocolate. You're only safe if you give it ALL away :) ha ha

Corrie Howe said...

I pack it up and send it in with my husband for work. He has more control than me. He'll only eat one a day for a snack.

Or, I'll send it in to the school for the staff and parent volunteers.

We always buy too much candy too. Our house is at the end of a 1000 foot driveway with tall trees and no lights. Too spooky for most kids.

Mama-Face said...

I used to be so good and careful about buying the gross candy...and then I got fat and lazy. I didn't notice any difference in the sizes or amounts; too busy cramming candy in my mouth.

Who does like smarties? I saw a bunch smashed in the road this morning. I thought it was so hilarious for some reason. Better than pumpkin guts. :)

Menopausal New Mom said...

Hi Kys, Good for you! The sweet taste of revenge, somehow I don't get to enjoy that nearly enough! Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Smileyfreak, thanks for finding me! Yes, the challenge now is to find something made of chocolate that I don't like!

Oh Anita, you are so right! Trouble is my hubby likes to have the candy around and has some sort of medical or mental condition where he can be satisfied by eating just one!

Hi Corrie, Yes, I would love to give those darn goodies away but my hubby likes to have them when he feels like having just ONE piece!

OMG Mama-face, I never know what you're going to write Lol! I laughed so hard at the visual of those smarties smashed into the road. Now they are even less appealing. Now if only I could get a bad visual on the Peanut Butter Cups and Kit Kats!

Thanks for your comments Ladies!

Buckeroomama said...

Nope, not into Smarties either, but do pass along the Skittles (only the red ones, though)! Thank goodness, trick-or-treating is not big around here.

Sheryl said...

Naw..you'll do the same next year :) We always give out the candy we like last. This year it didn't work out though, we ran out of candy before we ran out of kids - eek.

Menopausal New Mom said...

Hi Buckeroomama, Oh, luckily I don't like Skittles, I'm more into the chocolate treats which are the ones I hold on to until the very end when giving out candy. Terrible of me Lol!

Hi Sheryl, thanks for stopping by! Oh, I'm so good at this now that I buy extra just to make sure we don't run out of candy and there is lots left over. Bad habit and one I expect to repeat next year no matter how often I tell myself that I won't. Thanks for commenting!

Martinis or Diaper Genies, I hear ya! Step away from the candy!
