The 1950's Breakup Letter From John to Maggie
Here is a modified version of my favorite post from my other blog about collecting vintage jewelry. Hope you enjoy!
Have you ever wondered what event or special occasion inspired the original owner of vintage jewelry to purchase it?
I hadn't really given it much thought until I acquired this B. David set still in its original box and in mint, unworn condition. You have to wonder why a set this pretty wasn't worn very much, if at all. It wasn't until I examined the box itself that I found out why.
Carefully folded and tucked under the box liner was a handwritten letter on hotel stationary, a small envelope containing a greeting card that would have accompanied a bouquet of flowers and a large tag from the florist shop with the name and address of the recipient.
The stationary was from a hotel in a small town in Georgia and was written by a married man to his mistress. It starts out "Dear Darling" and he begins by apologizing for hurting her stating that his love for his children is the reason he can never leave his wife. He tells her how he was jealous of another man she was seeing and reaffirms his love telling her he wishes he could make her his wife. He writes that someone once told him he would get hurt one day by losing someone he loved dearly and that this was that day. Of course he ends it with the standard "I'll always be around if you ever need me" line and then signs it "Loving you always".
Accompanying this letter would have been a bouquet of flowers with an old-fashioned cardboard insert with three deep red roses "Love John" and this B. David rhinestone jewelry set. Personally, I thought the letter sounded a lot like something out of the movies from the 40's or 50's, the last scene in Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman comes to mind.
So there you have it, the reason why this pretty set is in mint, UNWORN condition. Because I purchased this set online, I have no information about "Maggie" or what happened to her after "John" ended their affair.
In my version, "Maggie" meets a tall, dark, handsome and SINGLE man who sweeps her off her feet. They travel the world together and he showers her with precious jewels and magnificent Sherman jewelry.
She lives a wonderful and exciting life and doesn't give "John" a second thought until 45 years later when she finds this box of B. David jewelry tucked away up high in the back of her walk-in closet. She chuckles to herself when she sees it relieved to have made such a lucky escape. She carelessly tosses it over her shoulder and in to the pile of her discarded designer clothing. From there it makes its way to a charity auction where it was purchased and then sold online to me.
Here's looking at you, "Maggie"!!!!

All New PAJANIMALS Plush Toy Line Review
Before I tell you how snugly soft and cuddly these adorable plush PAJANIMALS are, I have to mention how hard it was to pry them out of my daughter's arms so I could check them out. And waiting for her to go to bed wasn't an option since these little critters are already dressed in pajamas and perfect for little ones to snuggle up with at bedtime.

Disclosure: I received two Plush Pajanimlas before writing my review. I was not compensated for writing a positive or favorable review and this is my personal opinion of the products.
So after much negotiating and pleading, I was finally able to convince her to hand over one at a time so I could examine it while she played with the other.
I started with 15" tall APOLLO, the dog who has the cutest little pajamas with planets and stars on them. He has super soft lime green "fur" and a happy smile that will delight children. Lots of attention to detail with his wide eyes and soft little padded feet. Apollo is a natural leader who the others look to when the path is unclear. Although he is filled with confidence and common sense, he can be surprisingly sensitive.
9" tall Sweetpea Sue the pony, is from their smaller collection and has a pretty flowered night dress with a ruffled border and neatly tied pink satin ribbon at her neck. She has cushy orange "fur" and big white front teeth. Her mane is made of soft pink satin ribbon and her "hooves" are soft pink fleece. She has very large eyes and loves order and routine. The others rely on her wise perspective and compassionate heart.
TOMY has created these charming little critters inspired by the Jim Henson Company and Sprout, the 24-hour preschool television channel. And now these little sweeties are available for the first time at retail stores and online.
The little bedtime friends plush line are based on the four main characters from the critically acclaimed television series and are available in both 9" ($12.99) and 15" ($24.99) sizes. Through their imaginary travels, these cuddly musical puppets venture out on adventures of discovery while modeling the skills children need and are the perfect companion to make bedtime a breeze!
