Chandelier Makeover

Now that I've got most of the redesign done for our daughter's room (you can check out the after photos HERE), it's time to turn my attention to the Master bedroom. After all, we all want to end the day in a room that is calm, peaceful and comfortable.

First up was to replace the light fixture.  I knew I wanted the glamour of a chandelier but one without all the fussy crystal chains.  I knew the drops alone would add all the sparkle I wanted.

So who would have guessed this 1960's Schonbek could go from:

So pretty when it's lit up!

The Schonbek  name stands for quality so I knew this diamond in the rough was worth saving.  It was purchased on ebay for a fraction of its true value because some where along the way, it met up with some brownish gold paint and a sponging technique.  

The crystals themselves were perfect, no nicks or chips so all I had to do was buy an $8 can of chrome paint and a bag of chrome-colored crystal connectors.  

I'm thrilled with how it turned out and it looks absolutely stunning in our bedroom.  One thing to remember when restoring vintage lighting is to be sure to have an electrician check the wiring.  Once you've done that, you can customize it to suit your taste in any way you want!

It's the perfect shade of blue in a pencil style that's fully lined so no slip or uncomfortable undergarments necessary.  I love the 3/4 length sleeves and pretty side pleats.  And that neck line is so pretty and feminine!!

My Hackney dress arrived very quickly and was protectively wrapped in delicate tissue paper.  It came in a well-made and sturdy envelope so there is no need to worry about damage during shipping.

The dress itself is made of a Spandex/Polyester blend so you know it's going to be comfortable.  A nice invisible side zipper makes it easy to put on and take off and the size chart was very accurate making online ordering a breeze!  The gals at Shabby Apple were a pleasure to deal with and you can shop with complete confidence thanks to their easy return/exchange policy.
