Top Three List

A couple of years ago, I watched an Oprah show where she talked about the benefits of keeping a Gratitude Journal. With the chaos of a new baby around, I didn't give it much thought but now that I'm keeping a blog, I'm going to record my Top Three Best Moments three or four times a month (hopefully I'll have that many!).

By having it here where I can find it (menopause brain), I can read it when I'm having one of those "Days From HELL" to remind me of some great moments.

So here's my first post with last week's picks:

#3 - Took my 3 1/2 year old daughter shopping for her Winter Boots and found them at the first store we went to ON SALE  (made in North America too!)

#2 - Hubby hugged me and told me the yoga must be working, I looked like I had lost some weight! (okay so I know this was probably just a lame attempt to butter me up for later but it's still nice to hear)

Coming in at #1, My Favorite Moment from the past 7 days:

My daughter climbed up on to my lap, threw her arms around my neck and said "I love you mommy!"
Nothing could have topped this :))

Hope you all had a great week, want to share?  Leave a comment!

I love moments like these, too. Yesterday the girls were leaving to go see Grandma. On the way out I asked for hugs & kisses. Izzy immediately came over to me, threw her arms around me and gave me a big wet kiss full on the mouth. Abby was too excited to leave, so she stopped, put her hand to her mouth, pursed her lips, and blew me a kiss and waved. It was a little grown up and very cute in a way....

p.s. what kind of yoga are you doing, and how often? I did yoga before I got pregnant...

A child's words and a hug........nothing in the world more sincere. Hoping you have another great 7 days.

Those moments are priceless. My older kids don't do that anymore. So I treasure it even more when my little one does something like that.

I agree, nothing can top that "I love you" moment.
Hoping many, many more moments for you in the future.

Those are some pretty awesome moments! What a great idea! And yes, that "I Love You" moment with your little munchkin would be hard to top. ;)

I love the idea of top 3 Gratitude picks. It sure keeps you feeling like not all days are days that make you want to whine or cry or eat a ton of ice cream.

Your babies are so sweet! Baby Boo and I spent a lot of time last week, cooking, playing with play doh and building things. Out of the clear blue, she leaned into me and said, "Momo, I love you!" I told her that I love her more and then she told me that she loved me more...it went on and on. But it was a very special moment for me.

Very sweet! I especially like when the hubbies appreciate our efforts to stay in shape!! xoxo

These are great! I love when me kids all give me a hug. I even got a hug from my son's best friend...first time in five years! (Of course, I had just forgiven him for breaking a window in my garage.)

There is nothing better than hearing that from your child!!! Esp when it's not prompted by something, like buying them a toy!

My hubby wouldn't notice if I lost 20 pounds!!! Glad your hubby is more observant!!

Hi Erin, don't ya just love those kisses no matter what form they come in! About the yoga, I'm not doing nearly enough. My class is only 2 nights a week and I should be practicing in between but so far, I'm not. I did yoga before and during my pregnancy. Just now trying to get back into it. Thanks for stopping by :)

My Aimless Infatuation, Yes that hug is worth a million bucks! Thanks for the well wishes and for stopping by!

Hi ZenMom, you are so right, they grow up so fast and before you know it, you have to walk two paces behind them in the mall in case they are seen!

Hi Stacey, Those hugs are tops when they come from such little hearts! Thanks for commenting!

Ethelmaepotter! You are so sweet, thank you for stopping by.

Hi Stacy, thanks for finding my blog! Yes, that "I love you" moment can't be topped!

Hi Chocolate Covered Daydreams, Thank you for sharing such a special moment between you and Baby Boo. Priceless!

Hi Ina, yes, hubby did well to make the list!

Corrie, what a sweetie you are! Broken windows are expensive to replace. I'd hug you too!

Hi Helene, Thanks for stopping by, Yes it's nice that hubby noticed although it's a double-edged sword. I hear about it when I gain to!

Those impromptu loves and hugs are the absolute best! I know you melted right into a mommy puddle right there!

Congrats on the yoga success!!!

I remember when Oprah did that episode. I tried to keep a gratitude journal for a few months after that.

The best part of this week is that my boys are feeling better and they're back to bouncing off of walls and playing non-stop.

I hate it when they're sick. I'm so happy they're not anymore.

ya gotta cherish those "i love you" moments, especially when they're just out of the blue! those are the best!

thanks for sharing your top 3!

Soooo happy I stumbled upon your blog! I love the 'seasoned' mothers' blogs. I'm 46 and going through peri-menopause and CAN'T WAIT to get to the menopause stage. I'm sick of Aunt Flo!

Hi Blue Violet, I'm still melting on a daily basis, I'm so lucky that she is an affectionate child. Thanks for the thumbs up on the yoga. I'm trying!

Hi Yonca, thanks for stopping by and yes, those hugs and kisses from our little ones are the best! Hope your Sunday was great too!

Erin M. You are so sweet to think of me when passing on your award! Congratulations to you and I'm flattered!

Hi Kys, I think we are the only two who saw that Oprah show, I had great intentions too on keeping a journal but it just didn't work out. This is the next best thing for me.

Hi Reluctant Housewife, Thanks for commenting. Oh I hate when the little ones are sick, it is such a relief when they turn that corner and start getting into mischief again! Glad yours are feeling better!

Hi Noelle, I'm happy to share my top three and encourage all of you to do the same. Helps on those down days when you can go back and see how good things can be once in a while.

Hi Momsweb, thanks for finding me and for commenting. I wouldn't be too eager to rush menopause. Wait til those hot flashes start, you'll be missing old Aunt Flo, Big Time. Thanks for the follow :)

I love these and look forward to reading more as you do them. It reminds me to focus on gratitude too. Thanks!

Love your gratitude list! Nothing better than hugs and love from one of your kids and a compliment from the hubs is always good!

Frugal Vicki said...

well, not in menopause yet, but I am struggling to lose baby weight from two c-sections in 2 years. Yep, idiot I know. Even more so that I am sitting there thinking how fat I am as I shove that healthy cucumber doused in fattening blue cheese dressing in my mouth! I look forward to reading more of you!

Nothing tops that mommy moment. But, the boot sale would have put a smile on my face, too.

Thanks for reminding me about the gratitude journal. A very good thing.

Hi Nancy, You are so right, I could just be hugged all day by my little one, thanks for commenting!

Hi Nicci, You are so right! I think we need to focus more on gratitude although it's so easy to get caught up in everyday living and forget! So glad to you stopped by!

Hi Jam, Yes, regardless of the motive, it's always nice to get a pat on the back or behind from the hubby!

Hi Frugal Vicki, thanks for finding me and the follow! I hear you on the baby weight, I also had a c section and know how stubborn that belly can be to budge! BTW, I'm following you now too!

Hi Mamatalk, yes, so many comments relating to the gratitude journal. Maybe we can start a Sunday post of gratitude moments to share! BTW, I LOVE a good sale!

A gratitude journal --what a great idea! I should look into that. :)

You should check out I Heart Faces --their theme this week is "thankfulness." It gave me a chance to make my own "thankful" list and it's wonderful to read what others are thankful for.

Thanks for sharing yours. Have a great week!

Wow, I've got to think about this. I think I am generally grateful but I should break it down. And it would be a good thing to re-read at on 'those' days...

How'd the buttering up go? Wait, what did I really just ask there?

ps Did you make the cute sign with the magnetic letters!

I have a gratitude journal. I don't write in it often. Maybe I'll remember to pull it out tonight. sometimes, when I look at it, I end up reading all the stuff from the past instead of writing new stuff. :)
I also have a journal for each child and I write quick notes or letters to them. I've been doing this since birth and sometimes there is a whole year missing, but what's written is still priceless. I will give each one them their journal at some point in their adult lives.

Menopausal New Mom said...

Hi Buckeroomama, thanks for stopping by and yes, a gratitude journal is a great idea for someone who has the time, hard to fit that in with all the blogging so I decided to combine the two!

Mama-Face, you picked up on that butter me up part Lol! No comment on that one and BTW, thanks for making fun of my homemade clipart Lol!

Anita that is such a great idea! You should do a post on that to inspire other moms to do the same. Your daughters will be so thrilled to receive those personalized journals some day!

Oooh, that a nice idea! I don't really have 3 off the top of my head, but 2 y/o is starting to talk up a storm, and I think every time she says "Thank you, Momma" is my best moment of the day.

Love your #1...that's the favorite at my house too. Thanks for your comment on my Multitude Mondays post. What you said is exactly why I'm doing this...for those days I'm not feeling too grateful then I have this list to refer too. I journal too...carry it with me everywhere and I have lots of gratefulness in there...just not in a formed list...lots of complaining too (grin).

Have a great day.
Jackie
