This week, June of 3! A Charm grabbed our cutesy Stamp of Approval button to do her own Green post on a new enviro-friendly addition to her home. Erin is posting lots of helpful Green tips and I'm tallying up my plastic bags refused stats.
As part of my effort to convince you that your ONE household can make a huge impact on the environment, I've been keeping track of how many plastic bags I "refuse" by opting to bring along my own reusable bags when shopping.
During the month of May, I was able to refuse 71 plastic bags! So to update that total for everyone, I kept count in June too. And even after spending almost two weeks at our cottage where we didn't shop, we still refused 29 bags!!!!
That's a cool, even 100 for a two-month period!! 100 less plastic bags that needed to be manufactured, or worse, ended up blowing around, hanging on trees or clogging our landfills.
My mom's two-person household refused 38 bags in May and 37 in June! That's 75 for only TWO months!
Can you believe two small households were able to prevent 175 plastic bags from being used during the months of May and June?? It's shocking how quickly they add up!
And just like I posted last month, why not join us with your own stats and either count the bags you do accept or better yet, count the ones you don't!
If you want to help make a difference, Erin is posting loads of Green tips today and don't forget to check out the enviro-friendly addition to June's family too!
PS: Just found out I'm on stage over at LOL today, want to take a peek? It's Here!!

Everyone CAN make a difference even with small changes!
I frequently refuse bags and say 'I can just put it in my purse.' (which is a huge diaper bag that's usually only half full) and they always ask if I'm sure. Ummm...yeah? That's why I said I would. I actually had a woman at Fresh Market tell me 'you don't want to do that!' and me being me said 'Yes. I do. That's why I said it.'
Woo green!!
Just when I was feeling bad about not being more green I read your post and Erin's and realize that I'm doing okay. (I also realized that a lot of green efforts save us money too. That's a double win!)
I am going to start re-using our plastic shopping bags. Great post Deb.
Great job Deb !
I haven't been counting bags but I haven't been forgetting them in the car either!
I've tried this Deb. My wife can't be bothered with it. She just keeps coming home with piles of plastic bags. I can't get through to her. She thinks that "hauling around" reusable bags is a big pain. I have to live with her.....LOL.
I think of you and Erin everytime I'm in the grocery store watching the checkout people put items in plastic bags.
Keep up the good work, in reminding and informing us.
we've used reusable totes for years for grocery shopping. i can only imagine how many plastic bags we've avoided!
I was motivated by the environment when I got reusable totes, but I admit I think it's pure self interest that has made me so conscientious about using them all the time. They pack and load into the car so much easier, they're easier to carry, easier to store... it's just win/win/win all around!
I confess I didn't remember to jot down my numbers every time, but I refused roughly 82ish bags for our family of four. I get a lot of groceries and I confess I go to Target a fair amount. PLus with the girls in camp, we had to go to Old Navy and get some things there as well...and being summer, I presented myself with some new clothes. SO it was probably more than 82 bags, but that is what I have officially counted.
Wonderful post, thanks for linking up, and I loved JUne's post, too!
Sorry I am late to this party! I am so glad that you and Erin are doing this and I will participate in the future. Rock on with your green self!
have a great weekend!

Samll changes are what I am making....Its a very rainy day here so blog hopping is the perfect activity. Hope you will visit me...I have a great giveaway that I am drawing for Sunday.
First let me say I was reading the LOL post and telling myself, I have read this before. DUH!! LOL!!
Let me get back my head and talk about bags..
That is truly amazing that five people can save that many bags.
Hubby and I were out and suddenly he decides now would be a good time to do the grocery shopping. I was unprepared, no reusable bags. I must say I was shocked at how much plastic bags I recieved. It has been soo long since I have had to get them and of course the reusable ones carry soo much more than the plastic.
I think I need to just store the reusables in the truck for just such whims.
