Then we hear there is a suspect. A man with a lengthy criminal record including sexual assault and attempted abduction involving a child. Our hopes are dashed. Will this child be seen alive again?
And then a few days later, a "miracle" happens.
This missing child is returned to his bed in the middle of the night while no one is at home. We are told the house had been left unlocked by the family in the event the abductor wished to return him. Police were not watching the home at the time. And why would they? Can you even begin to calculate the odds of this happening?? Kienan is examined by a physician and it is determined he has been unharmed physically.
Then last Tuesday, the suspect is found hiding in an abandoned mining cabin and charged with kidnapping.
Happy ending and cheers all around while everyone pats each other on the back for a job well done.
We've all heard stories of children being snatched from their beds. There was Elizabeth Smart, Sabrina Aisenberg, and Madeleine McCann just to name a few. Elizabeth was rescued from her abductors 9 months later while Sabrina and Madeleine remain missing to this day.
Each of these missing girls has had extensive media coverage on shows like America's Most Wanted and Dateline and CNN. For the children who have been rescued like Elizabeth Smart and Jaycee Dugard, there have been book deals, television specials and movies celebrating in their miracle.
But for some reason, I can't help but wonder if the case of Kienan Hebert is just "too good to be true". Don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled for the family he has been returned in amazingly good condition after several days but for some reason, I just can't get the story of Balloon Boy out of my head....

Well there is no doubt it is great the child is back home but you just never know the whole situation these days. Hopefully it is a happy ending for all those involved except for whoever the real guilty party is.
It would sicken me if this child was used to get a man in jail just because someone learned of his past. Hoping that it wasn't a hoax
When someone's child goes missing it must be such a frightening experience. I can just imagine the joy when a child is found. I really hope that the story about the little boy was true. This is certainly not a hoax that parents or anyone should ever pull off! Take care and all the best to you and your family.

Ahh, balloon boy...I remember that one well. And I don't blame you for second guessing this one either. if my child went missing, I don't think I would leave my door unlocked just in case the abductors wanted to return her. I don't think the abductors would care enough to put her back into her bed...if they did in fact return her...they probably would kick her out of the car and let that be it. Strange. Glad the boy is okay though.
I get what you're saying---something just doesn't add up. Interesting...
I saw this story on the news, but no follow-up since the boy was back with his family.
You raise a point that is definitely worth investigating. Hmmm...
I was thinking the same thing while reading this. I hope its not true and I am glad that he has been returned safe, but really? Just not calculating in my head!
Being in the province where this story occured, I have heard lots of news on the story. I think there is a lot the police just aren't telling us...and it seems it will remain that way for quite a long time. It was tempting to think the suspect was framed, but you just never know. For now, I am just happy he is home and safe, no matter what really happened. It sure is a weird turn of events and I hope we get the real truth someday.
I live in northern alberta and I actually know Kienan's Grandmother. While I was completely relieved that he was found I do find it a little fishy too... Maybe its because I was born a skeptic but maybe, just maybe miracles do happen sometimes
That does seem rather neatly packaged. A bit too "miracle-ish".
And who thinks to leave their house unlocked on the off chance the kidnapper would return the child in the middle of the night? That's just weird.
I agree that something just isnt right here. Im thankful the precious child is home & safe. Have they not been watching & questioning the parents? I know in the US the parents are usually the first suspects a lot of the time. This story is just odd. Keep us posted on any new developments.
isn't it sad that we have to think that way...that something so horrible like a kidnapping would be used as a ploy to get book deals and money. can't we all just make money the old fashioned way - by hard work and dedication to a job we enjoy...or is that too much to ask?!
