Krazy Glue Mishaps

Since the invention of Krazy Glue, I know there are countless stories of things that have accidently ended up superglued to the worse places. In my own family, it's my mum's side that has the superglue klutz and I know that anyone who has met her wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that.

So here's what happened:

My 60 something year old (at the time) uncle wears dentures. He wanted to save a few bucks and thought that he would repair the crack in the pink section that snugs up to the roof of his mouth himself. So he decided to use superglue to bond the two sides back together. He's holding his chops in one hand and has just laid a nice wide bead of superglue down the crack with the other when a housefly buzzing by skims the side of his forehead right over his eyebrow.

And if you don't see this accident waiting to happen let me spell it out for you. He brings up the hand that is still holding the repaired dentures to brush away the fly, just touches his forehead with them gluing the chops to his eyebrow while at the same time letting just enough superglue get airborne, into that eye sealing it instantly and leaving those chops dangling.

So after cutting his chops free, he tries everything he can think of that won't blind him to get that damn eye open, he gives up and heads to our local hospital emergency room for help. There, they managed to unstick the stuck eyelid and send him on his way less half an eyebrow but with two good eyes for the drive home.

So I'd like to know, what superglue mishaps have happened in your family?

OH geez...not as bad as I expected. I thought you were gonna say he glued his dentures to his eyebrow. THAT would've been funny!

Suprisingly I haven't had any mishaps with superglue. Damn, I bet I just jinxed myself....

Not a funny story butI was gluing some delicate parts together at work. The glue seeped out and glued them to the workstation and I destroyed them while scaping them off. I have alsombeen to the doc's office several times for cuts and have been glued back together.

It appears some krazy glue stuck some of my words together.

I am such a disaster that I don't even keep super glue around the house. If I didn't screw it up, the 4th grader most certainly would!

Ha...personally I stay away from super glue and bleach!~ No mishaps here with the superglue. I just read somewhere though in blog land a kid getting a hold of the super glue, and they glued their eyelid shut! Thank god it turned out OK in the end.....funny story Deb! Have a great weekend:)

LOL.

I'm sure the ER loved this one.

No accidents with super glue...mostly cuz I won't touch the stuff. I'd be stuck to everything. Ain't that a purty picture?

That's hilarious. I bet the nurses/doctors had fun with that one for a while :)

I've never had any accidents with super glue. To be honest, I'm kind of scared of the stuff...because I know that something like you described, could definitely happen to me...

I don't think I can compete with that; that's a great one!

I've only ever stuck my fingers together with that stuff. I use very sparingly now.
Happy Friday!

I am so afraid of having a big problem with it that I have always refused to use it for anything.

I thought you were gonna say he put the teeth back in his mouth lol. I don't have any super glue stories cause I don't use the stuff.. for all the reasons mentioned above..

I once accidentally glues my fingers together, but a little nail polish remover and I was good. This is not worth retellling. But your story is hysterical. Thank your uncle for me.

OMGGGGGG!! I can't imagine! I would have been hysterical!

Never have had a glue run in..which is amazing considering I'm quite clumsy..I did however staple straight thru my finger once...lol.

My girlfriend was reaching in into her purse one night to put eyedrops onto her contact lenses. She felt around and grabbed the little tube of drops and proceeded to squeeze into one eye...yeah, you guessed it.

Many hours in the ER later, she got the lasik surgery as soon as it healed.

No more crazy glue in the eye for that girl!

Shannon K. said...

I can totally see this in my head! I can't think of anything that off the wall that has happened with super glue for me or anyone I know...but regarding eyebrows...I once naired off the eyebrow of the kid I babysat while he slept. They still had me back after that!

Mixed Reflections said...

I know SuperGlue/CrazyGlue/GorillaGlue had the best of intentions, but really, is it POSSIBLE to use it without it getting stuck to some part of the body...which in turn gets stuck to something else? It's an art, that's for sure!

Buckeroomama said...

I read dentures and I went, Oh no! :)

No SuperGlue incidents here so far...

OMG he isn't alone. Prince refuses to see the dentist for his crown. Instead weekly gluing his crown, his tongue, his cheek, his fingers, his knife etc. At least he can't taste my cooking... Did have a mishap with a set of 16 plates awarded by the judge to my ex. Seems the darn stuff squirted between every plate somehow...dangerous stuff for sure!!!

Unknown said...

I am so accident-prone and klutzy that I don't ever get near that stuff. It would be a disaster.

The fly had me worried, thought he was gonna somehow end up in the mix!

Annie said...

that is sooooo funny!!!
We have luckily not had any krazy glue stories. I don't think we have any krazy glue in our house for just this reason :)

Brian Miller said...

oh my. thats got to be one of the funniest things i have ever heard...so need a you tube video...lol.

Macey said...

That is HILARIOUS!!! I thought it was funny when I glued my fingers together!

NYCGAL said...

O M G!! That must have been so painful. I'm a nurse and while working in the ER long ago, a man had his penis super glued to his leg rotf!

Laynee said...

That is too funny!

My mishap was not that bad. I was gluing a model car together and the glue seeped out on to my finger. Me not realizing it rubs my hands together. That's when I realize that I can't get them apart. I had to get the stbe to get a knife to unstick me and in the process i kept resticking my fingers to each other.

Krissy @ ArtsyMom said...

OMG THATS HILARIOUS!! I've glued my fingers together with nail glue, but because I am so accident prone, I tend to stay away from the superglue.

Following from Friday Follow!! Better late than never, right? :) Come visit us and follow us as well! :) We have a Friday Follow giveaway going on until Sunday.

OH my God!! I shared this story with D laughing out loud. Only to have him share a very similar story about a friend of his who also got his eye super glued shut. Also with a happy ending thank goodness!

That is so funny. I could picture it in my head as you were telling the story. Thanks for a great laugh.

I stay far far away from super glue for obvious safety reasons. I am such a klutz! I can only imagine what would be glued to where if I ever used the stuff!

Liz Mays said...

How can one top that? It's not possible!!!! Just fingers for me!

Nakamuras on Saipan said...

I'm sorry, I'll admit I had to laugh at this one...however, it would be just the thing I could have done. I have also had some misadventures gluing my fingers together with that stuff!

1. My father was using superglue to repair something in his car. He was on his back on the front seat, legs out the door, trying to put this piece back when he superglued his arm to the underside of the steering wheel. He kept calling to everyone that passed by on foot and on bikes, and although people could hear a voice, they couldn't see a person. Finally the neighbor's daughter found him and offered him some nail polish remover!
2. A friend at work walked right into the closed door of the bathroom, breaking her front tooth in half. She used superglue to put it back in. Her dentist had a fit!

Good post! Thanks!
