Aloha Friday - Wedding Dress Trashing

Aloha Fridays are brought to you by Kailani in beautiful Hawaii at An Island Life where Friday is the day to take it easy while anticipating the coming weekend. Today I'm going to link up, take it easy and ask a question:

What did you do with your wedding dress?  Trash, Stash or Treasure it?

I didn't even know about this until my niece, who is getting married in July mentioned it to me.  Apparently some modern brides are choosing to trash their wedding gowns after the ceremony rather than store the thing for years in a closet or old trunk.

I really liked the idea.  I mean seriously, you will never wear it again even if you were to remarry sometime down the road and the odds that some distant heir would give a crap about it is pretty remote.  I expect mine, which happens to be taking up a lot of room in my closet, will end up in the local charity shop one day.

Where is your wedding dress right now and what plans do you have for it, if any?

Mine's in a bin with some other wedding items. I would SO love to do a trash the dress photo shoot :)

Stashed in the back of Brad's closet. I don't even think I had it dry cleaned...so it should just go in the garbage.

Mine's been dry cleaned and professionally packed and stored away at my in-laws' house (no room in ours!). Z says now that she wants to wear my wedding dress when she gets married. We'll see if she still thinks that way when the time comes. :)

The wifes was professionally packed and sealed 29 yrs ago and stuck in the attic.

My girls want even rewear/share a prom dress so I know they want be wearing this thing.

I didn't have a wedding but the dress I wore was something my mother-in-law bought me to wear and it looks like some crazy cult dress with a lace doily collar. It's aweful, and it's in a storage bax because my daughter says we should make pillows out of it!

Mine is stashed I would be shocked if my girls wear it but I have offered it to other people before and if they were the same size would have worn it. I am not so sentimental I have to have it cherished forever. The day is my cherished memory no the dress.

My husband and I just celebrated 15 years this week and my beautiful dress is still hanging in a closet. Honestly, I love looking at it from time to time. It was/is just gorgeous. I doubt my daughter will have any interst in it, but you never know.

As far as "trash the dress" goes, I've heard of it and have seen some pictures, but I just really don't get it.

Trashing looks like so much fun! Mine is currently stashed in the attic - if Princess Nagger decides not to wear it when she gets married years from now, I saw a great idea about turning it into christening clothes for future grandchildren. :)

Mine is boxed somewhere, we move every 3 years, so I never see it anyways but I wanted to keep it as a treasure.

I don't love the trash your dress idea, but I'm planning on giving mine to my daughter for dressup so maybe that's not much better :).

Well, me, being a photog I am so so so looking to find a bride to do the TRASH THE DRESS with. The problem I am finding is that fact that most brides spend an outrageous amount of money to wear the dress for one day, can not imagine trashing it. But, I say - why store it? Do you really think your daughter (if you have one) is going to wear it? I think not.

Now I would so have someone make a christening gown for any babies that may arrive into the union. But that would be about it.

oh and - I borrowed my wedding dress and gave it back.

My step daughter is getting married this August has paid a boat load of money to have her dress dry cleaned and preserved.

So yeah.. it is really cool to do a TRASH THE DRESS but you have to find someone that is willing.

Mine is stored in a trunk with loads of old photos. Heck, I designed that dress and hand-beaded every teeny tiny bead on the dress, head piece, veil and train. My fingers just won't let me trash it. Besides, I use it as my weight monitor. I try it on once a year! Heeehehe!

God bless you sweetie and have a marvelous Mother's Day weekend! :o)

Oh my goodness. I can't imagine trashing a wedding dress. All you women who want to throw your's away, please send them my way. I'll remake them into something else! I've saved my own and it's stored away.

I took my dress to a tailor and had it remade. I kept the top and added a bugundy skirt (attached) for a new dress that I will wear for my upcoming marriage vow renewal.

I also wear the dress for new years, other weddings, etc and I ADORE it!

Since I have a spacious closet, I didn't have to store it away. It's hanging at the back end of the closet waiting to be professionally cleaned and stored in one of those special boxes.

Why?

Because everyone else kept their wedding dresses, thinking that their daughter might one day want it. LOL
