Aloha Friday - What Makes A Good Blog?

Aloha Fridays are brought to you by Kailani in beautiful Hawaii at An Island Life where Friday is the day to take it easy while anticipating the coming weekend. Today I'm going to link up, take it easy and ask a question.

I've been thinking about adding more personal content to my blog again now that things have settled down around it within the family so my question today is:

What do you think makes a good blog?

Personally, I like blogs that do a mix of personal posts, humor and giveaways which is the direction I'd like to go in.  What do you think?

Deb, I totally agree with you. I enjoy reading personal, humorous, honest posts. Some of the giveaway posts I bypass because there's so much involved in entering. I think it's the love of reading that makes me come back to a blog.

it's those initial several seconds that keeps me on a blog page the first time. I'll admit it. I'm a sucker for good looking blogs. but what keeps me coming back for more are the words. the posts. the depth. I love all sorts of blogs from the joys and challenges of parenting, to decorating, to reading, to just being funny and blogging about nothing in particular.

That is exactly what I like too...I try to reflect what I like in my blog. As much fun as reviews and giveaway are, it is work...so I am trying to mix it up a bit! :)

But you know I love your blog because I have been reading it since I was a bloggy infant...lol!

I agree! I love blogs that are real and personal. I am trying hard to do more of that on my own blog.

I agree with the above. Humor and something I can relate to are important to me :)

Cant wait to see you inject your personal stories. I always enjoyed that even if some of them were at the expense of hubbies pride. LOL

What makes a good blog? Go back and read your blogs a year ago. That was great blog.

I really just want people to be real, you know. I want them to be honest and I love to see a variety of different things. Anything that catches my eye.

Good writing about things I care about with (preferably good quality) pictures and a healthy mix between text and photo - not too much of either. I agree, the writer should seem like a *real* person. No drama, please.

Easy to look at, easy to navigate through, easy to comment on and does not play music when you land on it!

Have a great day!

I'm brand new to the world of blogging. My inspiration to start one of my own came from first entering giveaways, and becoming familiar with a few good blogs (including yours!). I like a blog that is visually appealing as well as one that has some depth and humanity. A blog that is just a bunch of ads and giveaways isn't very reader friendly. Although giveaways draw ALOT of new reader attention and traffic, there should still be a few posts in between that'll make'm want to really read your blog. I'm not one to talk tho', I have 1 post so far...told you I was a newbie! ;)

Exactly what you said to me last week:

A mix of personal stories, humor and giveaways. Now that makes a great blog!

You are soooo right!

I completely agree with you also!! A good mix is key!! I think that I try to do that... I don't want just a review & giveaway blog... for me it is hard to find the time to blog with this little monkey crawling all over me!!

A good mix is definitely key! :)

Something that makes me laugh. Or offers alcohol giveaways. (OK I'm kidding about that part) (Sorta)

Some kind of balance is needed. A bit of personal posts certainly draws interest.

I enjoy the blogs that have a mix. Even ones that share a family recipe now and then, because believe it or not, I actually try some of them.

I would say I prefer a mix of posts as well and that is what my own blog tends to be -- I think of it as being "eclectic" blogging :-)

I'm a new follower :-)

A good blog discuss all the little things that makes up life. And it depends on the viewpoint of the writer.

Aloha.

I like blogs that show the personality of the blog owner. When a person is "real" i.e. not trying to overdue it or mimic someone else's blog, I feel that I am actually having a conversation with her or him.

And if that's the case, the subject doesn't have to be limited to a certain topic. For example, I like stopping by a few photography blogs, too.

I enter a giveaway only on the blogs that I am currently familiar with. I don't search for giveaways because it takes time away from reading a post and because I already have too much stuff! :)
But one day, I'm going to win something you've sponsored from my "one comment" entry!

I welcome your personal blogs back if and whenever you decide to post them.

Regarding your current blog content - I think you should do whatever you'd like because it's "your" blog. You've made so many bloggy friends, that people like me will always stop by now and then to say hello, because I (we) know the person you are. :)
