Some People Never Learn

And it turns out I'm one of them.  You'd think with the number of people who show up at our front door on a regular basis, I'd start getting up at the crack of dawn to dress in my Sunday best with full hair and make up.

It happened again the other day.  I was walking around the house in an absolute daze, about 9:00 am, hadn't even had my first cup of coffee.  The doorbell rings. Me thinking it was probably the postman with a parcel opened the door only to find staring back at me a reporter from our local TV station..... AGAIN!

Without missing a beat he goes into his well-rehearsed speech about the green space and harbor across the street from our house.  When he's finished letting me in on the latest "scoop", he wants to know if I'll go on camera and give my opinion.

The first thought that jumped into my head wasn't about the green space at all.  It was whether or not this guy needed to get his eyes checked.  Here I was with my messy bed-head hair tied back in a ponytail, not a stitch of make up on, crusty eyes and bare feet.  I wasn't even dressed yet!  I was standing there in a pair of faded black yoga pants that were hanging off my ass, I had on one of my husband's oversized t-shirts with no bra.  Trust me, braless is not a pretty sight on any woman over the age of 40!

Me, who has an opinion on just about everything, told him what I thought about the park but that there was no way I was getting in front of a camera looking like something the cat hadn't only dragged in but tortured for hours.  He looked at me with a completely straight face while telling me the biggest lie so far that day "I think you look just fine!"

"No way" I said "but if you want to come back around 12:30, I know my husband would love to tell you what he thinks and probably on camera"

Monday Minute

It's Monday again and we all know what that means.  Time for the Monday Minute now hosted by Heather and Melissa.  This week's guest hostess is Not Your Average Single Momma

What is your favorite 80's flick?

I can't decide between "The Breakfast Club" or "Desperately Seeking Susan", loved them both!

One genre of music needs to be banned.  Which genre?

Okay, at the risk of making a lot of enemies, my vote goes to rap (except for "Walk This Way" with Run DMC and Aerosmith of course!)

What is your all time favorite candy?

Anything with chocolate, I'm not fussy!

How 'flawed' is your driving record?

Hardly at all, one warning for speeding (120km in an 80km zone), one parking ticket.  Very boring driver

What was the high school mascot?

Okay, it was so long ago, I don't remember.  I remember our colors were maroon and white.   Do I get points for that?

and finally...

What color socks are you wearing?

No socks, too hot with Summer and hot flashes although my undies are black!

Out With the Old and In With the New!

Sometimes blending two households can be a challenge.  Add to that challenge two people who have completely different tastes and things can get tricky.  So far, my husband and I have done a pretty good job at making his furniture and mine blend but the one thing we can't agree on are the kitchen tables.  He has a formal dinning set that is left over from his first marriage and I've been slowly weeding out the old relics left over from his "previous" life.

I've decided that if he doesn't want to use the antique table that I had, maybe it's time to buy a new one.  One we both love.  I mean seriously, I have to keep things around here interesting so giving in just isn't an option.

I thought if I looked around on line, I might find something that we both love and maybe we could finally retire his old dining set or better yet, drop it off for his ex to deal with. I still thank my lucky stars she took the ugly bedroom set and used mattress with her or I'd be trying to figure out how to get rid of it too.

So with only one tiny furniture store in our little one-horse town, CSN Stores is where I went on the hunt.  Keeping in mind that we have a historic home with a fireplace in the dining room,  I chose these three sets.  Before I show them to the hubby, I'd like you guys to give your opinion.  I'm looking for something comfortable and traditional.

I love this footed table and the solid back chairs!

I didn't even think of a round table but this is gorgeous!

This one combines the best of both with a nice solid table and cozy fabric chairs!

I Thought It Was A Good Deed

The other day, my husband and I were downtown looking for a parking space.   As he was driving, I was rooting around in the bottom of my purse looking for change for the parking meter.  So hubby spots a space and pulls up to the meter.

I got out, went up to the meter and saw there was more than an hour left on it. Lucky us!  So I noticed the meter for the car parked beside us had expired.  Since I was standing there anyway with change in my hand, I put it in the expired meter and walked away.

As we were heading toward the shops, my husband asks "What did you do that for?"

I responded "Because his/her meter was out of money"

So he says "Well that's their problem, not yours.  I wouldn't have done it."

I looked at him rather puzzled and said "Maybe it belongs to a mother who has kids with her and she's up to her neck dealing with them and didn't notice the time, maybe it's for someone who isn't feeling well and they haven't gotten back to it, maybe it's for someone who just doesn't give a crap.  Whoever it is, I don't care.  It gave me the chance to do a good deed."

His response surprised me.  "It's NOT a good deed because they didn't see you do it."

And I said "It is so a good deed because I know I did it."

What do you think?

Is it a "good deed" when you do something for someone even though they never know you did it?  

Changes

Some of you may have already noticed that the content on my blog has been changing over the past few months.  Part of that change is due to a problem I've had with privacy which I plan to post about sometime next month.  The other reason is that I have been approached by some great companies who wish to promote their products on my blog.

But here's the difference. The Giveaways you find here will be for items that I love.   Products that will appeal to the ladies like jewelry, fashion, cosmetics, gift ware, handbags, shoes, wallets and some cookware items.  Any one who wins one of my Giveaways will win an item that I would be thrilled to win myself so I hope you'll support those giveaways by getting your entries in.  The better the response from all of you, the better the products I'll be able to offer everyone.

I still plan to post the funny stories and things that happen.  And believe it or not, I've had another reporter show up at the door, a relative of the original home owner and a magazine photographer.  For some reason, I'm a magnet for people showing up at the door which gives me plenty to blog about.  I will share those stories here too and anything else that makes me laugh, probably the hubby.
