Drawer Organizing Cheap and Easy!!

It all started with a simple request from my husband.  "Do we have any stamps?" he asked.  I said yes and wished him luck finding them in one of our two kitchen junk drawers.  Let's just say these two drawers were in such chaos, he decided it would be faster to drive to the post office and buy stamps.

Then a few days later while picking up a few items at our local Dollarama (which is a dollar store with items between 50 cents and $3.00), I found these sturdy plastic trays in the kitchen isle.  The square ones were $1 a piece, the small square were two for $1, the regular oblong were $1 each and the longer oblong were $1.25 each.  Cheap, cheap, cheap compared to organizers found in department stores that start somewhere around $15 and can go up to $30, $40 and $50 with fixed compartments and dimensions that can not be altered.

These Dollar Store trays could be mixed and matched
to fit my drawers as well as the contents each was
to hold for a fraction of the price.

Here is drawer #1 with the stamps easy to locate in the bottom right compartment.  I just picked from my assortment of trays to get the inside drawer dimensions and tray sizes I needed for the items each was to hold.  I really should have taken a "before" photo but trust me, it was too embarrassing!
Neat and tidy with scotch tape dispensers used around the outside of the compartments to create a tight fit while offering easy access to them.

Here is drawer #2 with basic tools, screws, picture hangers, clips, chargers etc. neatly organized with long strips of velcro, packing tape and plastic string used to snug up to the compartments creating a tight fit within the drawer.
Neat and tidy and easy to locate everything quickly!

I was so inspired, I tackled my kitchen utensil drawer grouping items in trays that custom fit them as well as placing items I use most often within easy reach.
Tidy and easy to find items when you need them in a hurry!

So for only a few dollars per drawer, I was able to completely organize and customize each kitchen drawer using the four available container sizes.   These containers would be perfect for desk and bathroom drawers too!

Cheap, Cheap, Cheap and who doesn't like to pull out a drawer and see everything looking so tidy!

Check back for more organizing and decorating ideas on a tight budget.  With gardening season over, I'll be stuck inside all winter!
