Let's "Go Green" With A Cute New Button!!

With the warmer weather finally here, you can bet that Yard Sale and Garage Sale signs will be popping up all over your neighborhood.

It's such a fun way to spend a morning or entire day and every sale you stop at is an adventure all on its own. You never know what you're going to find and most of the people hosting the sales or treasure hunting are outgoing and friendly.
And of course, don't forget that "Green" factor.

When you buy or sell pre-loved items, you are not only keeping them out of the landfills but you have saved the planet the resources and energy required to create a "new" one to replace this "gently used" one.

Sometimes it can be as simple as a coat of paint or a new fabric to dress up a vintage find and sometimes you can find the exact appliance or item you are looking for at a fraction of the price you would pay for new.

Want even more reasons to shop at Garage Sales and Thrift Shops?

Take a look at these pretty hoop earrings I picked up the other day at our local thrift store. I thought they were good quality but I got a hell of a shock when I used my magnifier and found the European stamp for SOLID 14K Gold on them. Talk about buy them on the spot!! Only $7.99 and these are NOT tiny, they are more than an inch in diameter, a hell of a bargain!!!
And this exquisite Victorian Mourning Necklace with genuine Seed Pearls and genuine Aquamarines all set in Solid Stamped 14K yellow gold? It was found at a yard sale in a plastic baggie mixed in with costume jewelry all for $1.00. Another wicked bargain!!!
It doesn't matter what you love, collect or are searching for, Yard Sales, Flea Markets and Thrift Shops can be a great resource!

"One Man's Trash REALLY is Another Man's Treasure!"

And don't forget to take along your own reusable shopping bags!!!

Oh, and did you happen to notice that darling little "Go Green Stamp of Approval" button that was designed by our friend Lee? Talk about being "Cute as a Button!" Details of how you can show off this little beauty on your own blog can be found at Erin of The Mother Load so head over for a peek at her "Go Green" post to find out how Here.

And Tracie of Stir Fry Awesomeness is showing off this adorable button on a "Go Green" Post of her own. This gal's got talent and you can see what it is Here!

Now tell us in the comments, what are some of your favorite pre-loved finds and what are you doing to "Go Green"?

I LOVE that necklace!!!

I'm now inspired to share what I have learned about composting. Mostly because I want to use that cool button!

Beautiful jewelry! I NEVER find anything like that at thrift stores around here. I think I might have to start going to the next town over to bargain hunt.

Deb,

I think you must have a secret talent, because I'm rarely that lucky at garage sales & thrift stores! I do a lot of shopping on Craigslist and have gotten a lot of the girls' toys, clothes, and shoes that way. I love being green and giving a new life to old things. Thanks for doing this with me today!

p.s. I see you got the button to cooperate after all! yay!

My goodness do you have the luck finding treasures!

Last Friday I found two white gold (stamped 14K) rings with no stones in the settings for $1 each. I have a few loose stones and plan to take them to the local jeweler and see what I can make. I will send you a pic!

We hold a neighborhood garage sale every spring. I love it. We get our houses cleaned out and everyone finds something they just have to have.

Awesome finds! I am a Value Village stalker. I know where they are in my county and all the surrounding counties too! I love thrift stores. I will only buy my toddlers new clothes on rare occasions when I need them to match. Anywho, I love the earrings and necklace!

I love thrifting and yard sales! Mainly because of the green factor. I can usually find awesome things that are barely used or just need some cleaning! It's great.

Nice finds!

I've never been good at garage sales, but I see it in my future - especially as my children get more independent; I'll have room for another hobby. :)

But, I'm still happily giving away stuff from my home, trying to contribute to "recycling." ":)

I love the Goodwill! Hubby is off today so we were both there earlier. Found 5 books for Emily to complete her Laura Ingalls set. I was thrilled! :)

I am going to have to think about what to write...off to read the post at the Mother Load!

Gorgeous necklace - I have never heard that term - mourning necklace.

We had a yard sale just last weekend - the entire city joins in for a huge sale every spring; it draws people from all over.

I'm not really good at finding deals at thrift stores and yard sales - the best thing I ever found is a tea cart which I repainted and now sits on my front porch...got it for $1. I'm more of an Ebayer; I've gotten several things for a penny!

I have a friend who is a super yardsaler, though. She just gave me a matted collage of photos from the Wizard of Oz - signed by Jimmy Maren, one of the Lollipop Guild!

Great finds! I am an avid yard saler. I buy not only for what I want, but to resell on Ebay. People simply do not know what they have!

Sweet! I'm not a big yard sale kind of gal but sometimes I wish I were!

Yay! We had a car boot sale on Sunday and the three of us emptied our cupboards, shelves and sheds then spent the next 5 hours meeting some really friendly people who bought the majority of our stuff! We made a nice little bit of money to put towards a new trampoline! Great fun and good to be recylcling too.

I'm so there with the thrift stores and garage sales. Unfortunately, I live in a place where it's usually very hot for at least 6 months so that means, most people aren't brave enough to do yard sales.

I LOVE those earrings! What a sweet hubs for buying the ring for Mother's day! I love that too!

I love that necklace. My grandmother left me one very similar to it. I LOVE it!

I love garage sales, antique shops, and flea markets. I have decorated my home with my purchases which run the gamut of vintage reading glasses to a Queen Anne style loveseat.
