Her Pick His Pick

One thing that surprised me when we renovated our old home is how much of an interest my husband would take in every little decision that was made. Coming from completely different backgrounds, sometimes it's not easy to find an item that we can both agree on. It didn't help that when we married, we had to join two completely furnished households and then decide what stayed and what went. Yep, most of mine went but luckily a lot of his stuff went with the ex-wife, yay!

So after finally picking through the furniture from both households, there is still one item left that we need to buy and yes, he wants his say. You see, neither of us had a kitchen island but after our remodel, this kitchen now has a 12" overhang on a 7' peninsula.  The perfect place for four counter stools. The perfect place to serve a quick lunch, snack or just a comfortable place to sit while talking on the phone or blogging on a laptop. Of course hubby and I have two completely different ideas on what looks best.

Since we live in a small, one-horse town, we don't have a heck of a lot of options for viewing furniture in person so we turned to the internet. I had already purchased from CSN Stores in the past so knowing they ship to Canada as well as the USA, we turned to their website. Trust me, the beauty of shopping online is it gives you the opportunity to argue at home instead of in the store showroom.

So after going back and forth with so many designs to chose from, I picked this as my favorite counter stool, pretty, sleek and would tuck nicely under the peninsula without competing with our nearby dining room set:

This is hubby's favorite, he prefers the more traditional look with a nice back support:

So we are asking for your input, which style gets your vote?

  1. LOVE that line about shopping via the internet allows you to argue in private!!!

My vote is with the backless style. My sister has bar stools similar to your husband's choice and her kids have tipped backward on them several times trying to slide out from the counter.

  2. I'm with "Caution." I think the backless ones are much prettier!

  3. I've had both of them and right now I have backless. I vote for backless!

  4. I vote for number 2...children fall off much less easily if there is a back on the stool.

    Must check out that website.

    :-)

  5. I like your choice of the backless stool. Love the design of it.

  6. I like the one with the back. Sorry....

  7. Hi there - I also buy from CSN stores, they are great for nicely designed but affordable items. I would have to go with hubby on this one - only because I love being able to slouch in my chair!

  8. Well if it was just you and hubbs i would say go with the backless one, but since you have a tot in tow i would say get the one with a back and the money you save over the years from NOT going to the ER buy backless ones when she goes off to college! :)

They are both divine! I am sure you will make an awesome choice!

  9. I love your line about online shopping giving you the availability to argue at home instead of in the showroom. While I love the look of the stool, now that I've gotten older I like the idea of back support and that style is just as sleek as the stool. It also keeps small children from wanting to spin!

  10. I so love the second choice. Then you can be comfy and not worry about falling off of the chair.. I would so fall..

My Round Robin is this week if you want to stop by..

  11. I am probably going to get shot by all the ladies, but here goes. The chair with a back is way more practical and they are equally "pretty". Must go with hubby's selection.

  12. LOVE CSN Stores! :)

Ironically, we have the barstools (almost identical) that your hubby chose...primarily because our 3 y.o. loves to sit at the counter and we figured he'd have too many oopsy moments with backless ones.

    Both look great though!

  13. The backless ones are prettier, and the little ones will learn balancing faster(ha, ha)! Your house sounds like our house: we have very different opinions of our household furnishings.

  14. Okay our old house we had the one your hubby likes and I loved them spent alot of time at island. Now we have the kind you like and honestly it's hard on the back. So I gotta go with the hubs on this one!

  15. Wow. Hard choice. I think I would go with the one with the back. I agree it would be much safer for the little one.

  16. They are both beautiful, but I vote for the 2nd one. I must have the same sense of style as your hubby :)

  17. we have the same exact bar stools your husband picked out! They are around our pub table in our dining room. Either way-I think they both look good!

  18. I think it's age talking here, but I'll have to say I prefer the one with the back. With children, I feel that would be my pick. Oh, and also, I would love to be able to lean back...

That said, I do love the look and the "idea" of the backless stool. :)

  19. I'm liking the chair, but that could be because it brings back memories of when I was a kid sitting at our island.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I must say...Wahhh, I want a kitchen remodel to include adding a island! As for the chairs, I hate to say it, but I'd choose the chairs with backs for safety reasons re:kiddos.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I love your choice because it can be easily tucked out of the way and isn't as obvious, but the practicality of having back support would overrule that for me so I would go with hubby! So sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love both but I am going with the 2nd choice. I need to have back support.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I like the backless stools. THe ones with backs invite tipping and spinning and hitting the backs on the counter, something we did as kids inthe backed ones we had. Either way they both look great.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Love the stools with the back support! Any pictures of your kitchen?

  25. I am going with the backless. If you have a smaller island they sit nicely underneath, and with kids it is a lot easier to slide on and off...I had the same dilemma and went with backless...for more form and function purposes with my boys!

  26. They both look really nice. But if I need to choose, I'll go with the back support.Have a great week Deb!

  27. I love the hubby's choice with the back.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I really like both but yes i have to agree with most the back support wins my vote ! but either way they are both very stylish :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. OK, I like the backless one, but being the old fogie I am, I'd have to go with the one with the back for sheer comfort and support.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I've had back and backless stools growing up. The one that I felt safest in was always the one with the back. It's easy to slide out of those backless ones if you've had one too many drinks too. I'm going with your hubs on this one.
    =)

  31. I like them both, but my favorite is the second one. I have to say that I have fallen off backless barstools and it is not fun.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I like both...nice colours! However, I have to agree with your husband, go with the back support one! We have them and we love them! They are from Pier 1.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I like both but I am leaning towards the nice back.. cuz my kids fall all over the place and I need something to lean back on lol

    ReplyDelete
  34. I hate to vote against you my friend. But I would go with the one with the back. Safer that way!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I"m kinda digging the traditional look.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm all about comfort. I think the ones with the backs would suit ME better, but I won't be sitting in them. You just don't know what it does to your back until you've sat on something without one. Plus, the kid safety factor is important in your case.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm lovin' hubbie's pick. You asked! :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Definitely in agreement with you on this one. The ones with the backs look too, well, obvious or something. I like the idea of the stools slipping under the counter (like in my mom's kitchen).

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think if you wnat people not too park too long in the bar stool go for the backless one.

  40. From a "look" point of view, I like your stool. From a comfort approach, I like his. Big help, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Go with the backless. We have the backed kind and the kids swing themselves around on them and they have dings on the chairs from the counters now. That is my answer! :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I agree with backless. If they have backs people tend to hang coates, backpacks, towels, and shirts on them. Trust me, I had them. The other ones look very classy. Keep us posted.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The backless ones are prettier, but I always like a place to lean...

    And Happy Birthday!!
I'm born the same year, and have that same huge TV in my baby shots!

  44. I voted and just had to drop down and wish you a very happy 49th birthday, sweetie.

Enjoy your day filled with blessings of celebrations! :o)

  47. Happy Birthday since I cant wish it on your other post!! Mine was Saturday!

  48. Both! Not the answer you needed? lol.

The 2nd one. With the back.

And happy birthday! Your comments arent on today's post. :)

  49. Happy Birthday! Have a wonderful birthday - love the pictures of you as a little girl.

  50. I'd go with his because I would want the back support. Happy Birthday!

  51. Tag, you're it!

Happy birthday! I had to do it here as I couldn't put it anywhere else. I hope you enjoyed your cake!

I vote for the ones with the back!

  54. Oh Deb..I love you but I like hubbys choice....one of the reasons is because of your daughter being able to sit in it. My daughter has chairs with the backs and my 3 year old Grandson loves to sit in them and color and paint and also eat when it's just him and his mommy.

What is it with these younger men and wanting an input..my daughters husband is the same way.

Either way both are great! Now let me go read what everyone else said!

  55. (Don't hate me)

I like the IDEA (disclaimer noted, please) of a back. You'd be surprised how much you'd like to sit back on a stool (especially if you're under the age of, say, 50).

We need a compromise. I'm vetoing both. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I liked your choice before I even scrolled down to his. But, I would get the chair with the back. Our island chairs have backs and I find myself leaning back sometimes.
Practicality is winning over pizazz. :)
Your husband sounds like mine. He is SO particular and SO conservative. I give in to many of his choices, but ONLY if it's a fairly good choice. I can't live with something ugly staring at me all day.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I like your husbands choice... sorry.. haha! I'm more of a traditionalist too!

I'm your newest follower... stop by some time!

  58. We have (and I prefer) the stools with the back support. I have terrible posture as it is, LOL! Plus, I actually feel like the back portion makes them safer for my little girls to sit on....but that's just me...

    ReplyDelete
  59. At our age, I would definately go for a stool with a back. I also think it might be safer for the youngin.
