What do you do when your husband comes home and frys up a package of rotting fish for lunch in the middle of winter? Open the windows? No, I don't think so when it's minus something crazy outside. Leave? Wish I could but that disgusting odor would be waiting for me when I returned.
So here's what I did once he ate that putrid fish and headed back to work. First I checked the fridge to make sure there wasn't anything else rotting in there, then I reached for one of my pots, filled it 3/4 full of water, added a teaspoon of dried cloves, a teaspoon of cinnamon and a quartered fresh orange. I put this on the wood stove and let it simmer for the afternoon while I went around with a scarf over my face.
Here's the best part. When our daughter came home after school, instead of asking what stunk so bad, she asked if I had made a pumpkin pie.
Mission accomplished!
